Here are some of the things I have tried:

Tea Tree Oil – I have seen this method promoted all over the place. I tried soaking for about 2 weeks and I saw hardly any improvements. While I didn’t stick it out, I just didn’t feel like it was worth my time and effort considering I saw better results with other solutions.

Vinegar Foot Bath – I thought this method was going to work considering it cleared up a lot of the fungus on my nails within 2 weeks worth of soaking it. However, after the second week, the improvements really started to drop off. I think the fungus can somehow build up an immunity to it. Within 3 weeks, I saw hardly any improvement from week 2. While it definitely worked well the first two weeks, it just lacked the power needed to kill a strong infection.

Finally I found something that worked!

I was just about ready to give up on my nail infection and went to my doctor to see if there was any pills or medicines he could give me to solve the problem. He also suggested the vinegar foot bath might work. I told him I tried it and didn’t see too good of results. That is when he told me about an over the counter solution called ZetaClear. Common Toe nail Fungus
The most common toenail fungus is known as onychomycosis, and is easily identified. When a person becomes infected, the area under the nail becomes filled with a yellow or brown substance. Although toenails are the most commonly affected areas, it is important to note that fingernails can become infected too.

Vinegar and Toe nail Fungus
If your toenail fungus is minor, (for example, you just noticed symptoms a day ago) there is a low chance that vinegar may work. However, this is extremely unlikely. In order for the vinegar to even reach under your nails, you have to soak for hours, over a month-long period of time. And even then, the vinegar will only treat the outer extremities of your condition. Try as you might, the fungus can and will come back.

This is because vinegar, at least commercially available vinegar, is a fairly weak acid. Those of us who keep a bottle around the house have probably noticed the label that says, “reduced to 5% acidity.” This indicates that the vinegar has been weakened to the point where it is more than safe for human consumption. Unfortunately, this renders it a poor home remedy. While vinegar is indeed suitable for disinfecting a countertop (this means killing every unicellular organism on said countertop), it lacks the anti-microbial punch required to break down larger pieces of matter, such as a fungus (fungi are typically large collections of one unicellular organism).

The consumer should not rely on vinegar alone to treat serious fungal infections, and instead opt for one of many commercially available solutions.

Can Tea tree oil really treat toenail fungus?

You’ll find plenty of stories about why tea tree oil is one of those fool-proof toenail fungus treatments. It is a highly popular natural remedy for nail fungus, particularly among those who wish to avoid prescription medications for their possible side effects.

Bottled tea tree oil used to treat toe nail fungus comes from the Australian tea tree, whose Latin name is melaleuca alternifolia. It has long been discussed as a possible source of antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral remedies, and there is some evidence to suggest that it may indeed possess certain properties that make it a suitable treatment for toenail fungus. Yet, there is nothing yet to suggest that tea tree oil will become a scientifically and medically accepted prescription medication anytime soon.

But how exactly does tea tree oil work as a nail fungus remedy? Well, if it has been especially prepared as a remedy for toe nail fungus, tea tree oil will likely be only one of the ingredients in the potion, being blended with other essential oils that are also supposed to treat toenail fungus. Among other oils/liniments used to supplement tea tree oil are dimethylsulfoxide, Vaseline, Vicks Vaporub, and iodine. However, no scientific research has, till date, proven their special powers as remedies for toenail fungus.

Because tea tree oil possesses anti-fungal and antiseptic properties, it is believed that you will obtain satisfactory results by directly applying it to the affected area. It is also supposed to be effective in treating other fungal infections like dandruff and ring worm but personally speaking, I have seen little evidence of tea tree oil’s ability to treat toenail fungus.

Is vinegar the toenail fungus remedy it is claimed to be?

And now, what of vinegar? Well, the supposed efficacy of vinegar is essentially based on its acidic properties, which hampers the growth of toenail fungus. Therefore, the idea is that if you apply vinegar daily, you will eventually restrict the growth of the fungus to the point where it will vanish and leave you with clean, freshly grown toenails.

Apparently, ordinary white vinegar will do the trick if you take a footbath in it for long enough – about a year – but you have to keep at it every day, for 30 minutes at least each day. You may also directly apply the vinegar twice or thrice a day or wear a vinegar-soaked bandage. Some folks also recommend apple cider vinegar as a remedy for toenail fungus, to be taken internally. The popular dosage is two tablespoons thrice daily, but remember, this is acetic acid we are talking about, so it may damage your tooth enamel if you don’t rinse your mouth after taking it.

Luckily, powerful solutions do exist.

I have searched all over the place and I finally found a solution that does the job. The solution ZetaClear not only did it clear up my toenail infections, it did it in very little time.
